soundtracking

If we agree that Facebook is fast becoming the new clutter then it's not surprising to see more and more take up of almost single-purpose niche social networking tools, as has been an emerging trend in recent times.

The scene goes small, kinda thing.

The one I'm liking at the moment is Soundtracking.

Yes, it's another check-in style tool, you check-in with the music you are listening to or experiencing.

With features that allow you to:
- check-in to the tune playing on your ipod/iphone
- identify and find the music you are hearing with search and auto-ID if it's playing somewhere ambiently
- tag your soundtrack at a location
- integration with Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare.

As I write this i'm #soundtracking 'Coma Girl' by Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros.

phonebook, it's a phone and a book

One of the key reasons why the mobile phone has become so important in marketing and advertising is the simple fact that mobile technology essentially enables ALL other media to become interactive. This is important from a product development perspective too.

With that in mind consider this from Japanese developers Mobile Art Lab: The PhoneBook.

It does what it says on the tin – a phone combined with a book. A picture book which contains a 'playing window' cut into it; the reader can then read the pages while interacting with the content on the iphone which is inserted into the book.

Very simple, but very cool.

brand as platform

The Autodesk Sketchbook mobile for iphone takes scribbling in a moleskin or similar into another dimension altogether, akin to a mini Photoshop in your pocket.

HT to Brian Phipps from the Brands Create Customers blog who says (of the iphone as a platform for innovation):

'When a brand becomes a platform its virtues radiate in a hundred directions. They spark more innovations, often in distant quarters, then fold back to raise the platform even higher.'

carling 'barslide'

I liked this point of purchase iphone app for Carling lager from BMB.

Its a skill based game where players attempt to 'slide' a pint to their mate along the bar by tilting their mobile use the handset’s inbuilt 3 dimentional motion detection. A successful slide wins an iPint, which fills up the screen just like a real pint. You can then ‘drink’ the virtual pint.

hat-tip to @jamiec.

UPDATE:
Sorry it looks like BMB have taken their link down.
